THE BIRMINGHAM YMCA NOW OFFERS TWO HOUR LONG SPIN/CYCLE CLASSES EVERY SATURDAY OR SUNDAY AT A DIFFERENT BRANCH. CLASSES BEGIN IN NOVEMBER 2015. ALL MEMBERS ARE WELCOME WHETHER YOU ARE SMALL BRANCH OR CITY WIDE!
City wide two hour cycle schedule
Zumba - Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, they’re getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! There’s no other fitness class like Zumba Fitness-Party. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students. Cardio
YCross –A boot camp-style class that combines an essential mix of cardio, strength, power, endurance, flexibility, balance and core in one great workout! Stations and circuits will be used; you will NOT get bored with this one! All fitness level options will be offered. Cardio and Strength
Y Strong - This class targets every major muscle group using only bars and free weights. YStrong is choreographed using traditional strength training exercises to match the music for a fun and effective workout.
Strength - A toning class that isolates upper and lower body muscle groups. Hand weights, body bars, bands, and balls are provided for this intense, non-aerobic workout
Pilates – Classes are designed to increase each participant’s body awareness, focusing on using the body’s center as the foundation of movement. Exercises are also designed to elongate and strengthen the muscles creating a longer, leaner look, as well as increasing strength.
Strength and flexibility Yoga (Gentle) - 45 minutes class teaching the fundamentals of Yoga. Slowly moving through basic poses giving you modifications and options.
Strength and flexibility Yoga - An alternative way to improve strength, balance and flexibility with the utilization of a variety of yoga postures and deep breathing methods. This 60 minute class will leave you feeling relaxed and stress free. Yoga can improve circulation, strengthen the body, and calm the mind.
Strength and Flexibility Yoga+ Strength - Yoga class that utilizes light weights, isometric holds, and more powerful movement. Get your Zen on while sculpting your body!
Yoga Flow - quicker pace. Exploring more advanced yoga postures. Kickbox- kicks and punches guaranteed to get your heart rate up and give you a total body workout.
Cardio Core - 25 min class, 20 strengthening your core ( abs and back) and upper body, 5 minutes stretching and restoring your muscles.
Strength and flexibility Gold + Strength -45 minute class designed for the senior population, focusing on range of motion, balance, strength,flexibility.
Gold +Dance - low impact dance specifically designed for the senior population. International and latin moves set to energizing exotic music.
Cardio+Dance(Funk)- dance class to all your favorite top 40 songs. cardio
Kid’s Y Cross - 45 minutes class for children 7-13. This class combines cardiovascular training, agility, strength and flexibility in a circuit format.
Spinning - the original indoor cycling class that simulates real road riding guaranteed to give you a personal challenge and incredible calorie burn all at a self- directed pace. NEW PARTICIPANTS PLEASE ARRIVE 15 min PRIOR TO CLASS FOR PROPER BIKE SET UP. Please do not enter class after it has begun.
Barre - class deigned to strength,stretch, tone and balance the entire body utilizing the ballet barre, light weights, and body weight. Class includes toning and muscular endurance with bouts of cardio. an emphasis on the glutes, thighs, and core. (50 min )
Please sign up at front desk-space is limited 101- If a class has 101 after the name, then it is a 30 min class that will teach you the basics of that curriculum. The class is designed to make the newcomer feel comfortable with what they will need to know for a non-101 class. SPIN 101, PLEASE ARRVIVE 15 MIN EARLY FOR SET UP.
Does your child LOVE the YMCA Soft Play room? Join us for the ultimate birthday party experience. We do 2 hour rentals on Saturday afternoons between 1pm and 6pm. You get the entire Child Watch area with tables and chairs set up, in addition to full use of the Soft Play room and equipment. You also get a YMCA Child Watch Attendant who will help you with set up, clean up, and anything you need in between.
Cost: $125 for members/$200 for program participants

Have a pool party year round at the Hoover Y - a great place for birthdays and group events. Parties are scheduled in two hour time slots, including pool and party room time. You may bring your own food, drink, and party decorations to make your day special. A lifeguard will be assigned to your party to monitor and coordinate the kids.

Health Coaching is about bridging the gap between where you are, and where you want to be. It’s where science meets psychology… or as we like to say, it's where we “train the mind and the body will follow.” We conduct an in depth interview and then use Mobile Fit technology to design a customized workout for you. It can then track your workouts and nutrition to help you stay motivated and focused as you develop a new routine. Mobile Fit can be accessed from our kiosk on the fitness floor, your smart phone, computer or tablet.

Personal Trainers teach, motivate and encourage clients to achieve their goals in the shortest time possible. All YMCA Personal Trainers are nationally certified and qualified to train clients at any fitness level. Personal trainers can help you to:
• Kick start a new program• Learn how to train yourself• Prepare for an event or sport• Add variety or increase intensity• Modify exercises due to injury or disability• Get results, stay motivated and have fun
--TRX Suspension Training is a new approach to exercise that leverages one's own body weight and the force of gravity and is designed to develop strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, coordination and core stability all simultaneously. TRX training engages the core on every exercise in addition to providing some cardio fitness in every single workout. This class will meet twice a week for a total of 10 classes. You can come to the Monday and Wednesday class 6:00pm-7:00pm or the Tuesday and Thursday class 9:00am-10:00am.
Designed for clients who need help learning both a strength and cardio routine.Private customized workouts will include exercises to help you tone muscles and burn calories.
INDIVIDUAL Strength + Cardio: 60 minutes: $275 for 5 sessions, $499 for 10 sessions, $718 for 15 sessions
Designed for clients who want to supplement their current exercise routine. 30 minute sessions can focus on either strength or cardio exercises-whatever you don’t do on your own. Sessions can alternate between strength and cardio workouts.
INDIVIDUAL Strength OR Cardio: 30 minutes: $170 for 5 sessions, $295 for 10 sessions, $428 for 15 sessions.
Buddy training combines the motivation and social support of a workout partner with
the expertise and program design of a certified Personal Trainer. Sessions can include
cardio and strength or just have a single focus.
BUDDY Strength + Cardio: 60 minutes each$177.50 for 5 sessions, $331 for 10 sessions, $446 for 15 sessions.
Massage therapy available to reduce stress, work through sore muscles and relieve tension. Licensed massage therapist, Jennifer Zimmerman has over 13 years experience in the art of massage. Jennifer can do everything from sports massage to cranial sacral therapy. Schedule you appointment at the front desk!
