Swim Birmingham YMCA is a year-round program offering training for beginners through national level competitive swimmers. SBY certified coaches will dramatically improve your child’s swimming ability while maintaining a focus on the YMCA’s core character values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. SBY competes in both USA Swimming meets, as well as YMCA competition. SBY is a member of the Southeastern Swimming Local Swimming Committee. Southeastern Swimming is one of 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSC's) that make up USA Swimming, the governing body for US Olympic Swimming. Southeastern Swimming represents about 7,900 swimmers from 79 clubs located in the States of Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee. For more information visit Southeastern Swimming's website here.
Swimmers are organized by age and are grouped within those divisions by ability. There will be lanes for each age group with varying levels of practice difficulty. SBY offers practice days from two to six days a week, as well as progressive calisthenics and strength training. Practices are Monday thru Saturday after school; times will vary depending on group placement. The beginner to the most experienced swimmer will be challenged while perfecting their technique and building endurance, all while having fun!
We are a competitive swim team. We offer groups specifically designed for competitive swimmers who are seeking to swim at a National and Regional Level. Participation in our Senior groups will require more of your child's time and dedication. These swimmers will be required to sign a "Code of Conduct" contract to be held accountable for how they act and represent SBY. Additionally, these swimmers will be expected to maintain a certain GPA at school and obtain volunteer hours around the city.
The YMCA of Greater Birmingham is a charitable organization dedicated to making our community a healthier place to live. Through generous gifts from our volunteers, we are able to make these programs more accessible to people in all communities we serve.
