OUR HISTORY
The Hoover YMCA, which opened in 2011, was the result of a dream by former long-time YMCA President and CEO Jim Lombard. Working with Hoover city officials and business leaders, the Hoover Y opened to an energetic, and full membership base. The inaugural volunteer board was made up of representatives from private businesses, non-profit organizations, and elected officials from the community.
OUR LEADERSHIP
Volunteering is one of the essential ways the Y engages people and helps them to be healthy, confident, and connected to others. The role of volunteers distinguishes the Y as a place where everyone can take an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change in the community. The Hoover YMCA is driven by an ongoing assessment of community needs and led by a board of community volunteers. Program volunteers assist with educational programs, mentorships, youth sports, and special projects, as well.
OUR COMMUNITY
More than a place, the YMCA is a cause. With programs from A to Z – like athletics to advocacy, dance classes to disease prevention, volleyball to volunteerism – we don’t just strengthen individuals, we strengthen our community. Our organization impacts so many people in so many ways. Everyone has a role to play. Together, we can achieve so much more.
We are located near Hoover, Bluff Park, Helena, and Riverchase.
OUR OUTREACH
The Y recognizes the importance of working together to create lasting social and personal change. We have the community’s trust to convene, partner and support community collaborations with schools, government agencies, faith-based organizations, businesses and others. At the Hoover YMCA, partnerships are developed and nurtured with area community service providers including businesses and corporations.

Nationwide Membership enables you to visit any participating Y in the United States through membership at your “home” YMCA (your home location is the facility that enrolled you as a member and that collects your membership dues).
We offer this because we want to help you reach your health and wellness goals wherever you live, work or travel. This is an essential part of our cause of strengthening communities.

Valid for active, full facility YMCA members
On a monthly basis, nationwide member visitors must use their home Y at least 50% of the time
Program-only participants and special memberships are not eligible for Nationwide Membership
Make sure the Y offers the services and amenities you plan to use
Bring a photo ID with you for your visit
You will be asked to sign a waiver when visiting another Y location
Pool Parties
Have a pool party year round at the Hoover Y - a great place for birthdays and group events. Parties are scheduled in two hour time slots, including pool and party room time. You may bring your own food, drink, and party decorations to make your day special. A lifeguard will be assigned to your party to monitor and coordinate the kids.
See the Birthday Party brochure for time options and prices. Please contact the Aquatics office at 205.682.1399 or bgarner@ymcabham.org for information on pricing and scheduling. A completed Party Guest Waiver is required at the time of booking, in addition to deposit.
***During the months of May - August all parties will be held after hours only due to daily pool usage
