Our History
The Greystone YMCA was part of the 2005 purchase of four SportsFirst locations from the Baptist Health Systems. The Greystone YMCA is categorized as a full-service 'Family Branch' meaning we provide programs and activities and amenities tailored for all ages. The Greystone branch has developed and implemented programming that benefits areas of Shelby County that were traditionally underserved.
Our Leadership
Volunteering is one of the essential ways the Y engages people and helps them to be healthy, confident, and connected to others. The role of volunteers distinguishes the Y as a place where everyone can take an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change in the community. The Greystone YMCA is driven by an ongoing assessment of community needs and led by a board of community volunteers. Program volunteers assist with educational programs, mentorships, youth sports, and special projects, as well.
OUR COMMUNITY
More than a place, the Y is a cause. With programs from A to Z - like athletics to advocacy, dance classes to disease prevention, volleyball to volunteerism - we don't just strengthen individuals, we strengthen the community. Our organization impacts so many people in so many ways. Everyone has a role to play. Together, we can achieve so much more.
We are located and serve families within the Greystone community and host families in Southern Jefferson County & Northern Shelby County communities, Leeds, Chelsea, and Vincent.
OUR OUTREACH
The Y recognizes the importance of working together to create lasting social and personal change. We have the community's trust to convene, partner and support community collaborations with schools, government agencies, faith-based organivations, businesses and others. At the Trussville YMCA, partnerships are developed and nurtured with area community service providers including businesses and corporations.
