Summer Fun Club

Summer Fun Club

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, the safety of the children in our care and our employees is paramount. We assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation, and will follow recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) and UAB Infectious Disease experts.

In an effort to protect the health and wellness of your child and slow the spread of the virus, we recommend that you keep your child home during this time. However, we realize that not all families have the ability to stay home with their children.  This summer we will offer a limited capacity childcare program for working families - Summer Fun Club.
What is Summer Fun Club?
Summer Fun Club will allow parents to work while receiving quality childcare for their children.  Children will be placed into small clubs each week following state guidelines not to exceed 12 participants.  During the day, activities will be centered around 4 main components:
  • Academic Enrichment: Through our partnership with the SAIL program, rising 3rd graders and up will receive one hour daily of instruction in Math or Literacy from a certified teacher through fun activities not designed to feel like school but to help address summer learning loss.  Students will take a pre/post test as required by our funders.  These tests will help teachers support each child where they are at academically and demonstrate to our funders the academic outcome of the program.  Parents can opt out of testing through the registration process.
  • Rising 1st-2nd graders will participate in engaging academic activities to reinforce learning from the school year.  This may include math and literacy games or independent and group reading.
  • Social and Emotional Learning: Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Our staff will lead children in engaging activities that help build these skills.
  • Skill Development: In our effort to reduce the amount of shared equipment and maintain social distancing, children will have the opportunity to focus on individual skill development.  These skills may include learning to jump rope, hula hoop, specific sport skills, knot tying, and more.
  • Enrichment: Children will continue to build skills through a variety of enrichment activities that will include STEM and Art activities.  Activities will be designed with social distancing practices in mind but still allow children opportunities to build their collaboration and problem solving skills.
