Fighting Food Insecurity

Feeding Our Community

At the Y, and in the community

For children who rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year, Summer Break leaves a gap in food security. The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama estimates that 100,000+ lose access to food during summer break.  In summer 2026, the YMCA of Greater Birmingham continues its partnership with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama to give food where it’s needed most. Food distribution days, times and sites vary by community.
