Corona Virus Response Updates

We understand your concern around COVID 19 and the resulting temporary facility and program closures, but we don't want to lose you! Our hope is to re-open our facilities and resume normal membership and program operations as governing agencies release current restrictions and we can become fully prepared.  For this reason, the Y is offering the following options for membership continuation: 
1. Continue uninterrupted payment of your membership fees to support YOUR YMCA as we seek ways to serve your community such as Emergency Childcare for essential workers, Red Cross Blood Drives, Virtual Fitness maintaining pools & facilities, performing ongoing maintenance and continuing basic business infrastructure necessary to be operational once we re-open.                                    __________________________________________________________
2. Accept a FREE medical hold WAIVING the $10 fee until we re-openPrepaid memberships will have their time extended.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              __________________________________________________________
3. Process an immediate cancelation of membership, WAIVING the 30-day notice requirement.  As always, memberships canceled in good standing may be easily reactivated with-in 6 months of cancel date and have the $50 Activation/Join Fee WAIVED.

We will not be opening Monday, May 11th. We are heeding today's recommendation from Dr. Mark Wilson, Jefferson County Health Officer, to "refrain from having public gatherings of more than 10 people for at least another two weeks after this weekend.”

Following Governor Ivy’s recent Alabama Safer At Home Order, Y facilities and programs will remain closed through May 15th. We will continue to provide All Day Emergency Childcare for essential workers in 5 of our facilities and serve as sites for scheduled and necessary Red Cross Blood Drives while also continuing to provide our Virtual Fitness options.

YMCA Hosts American red cross blood drives

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham is supporting the American Red Cross by hosting blood drives at membership branches across the city as the supply of blood donations has dropped drastically due to cancellations during the coronavirus outbreak. This is in support of a national partnership between YMCA USA and the American Red Cross.

HERE FOR YOU.  EMERGENCY CHILDCARE IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 

In an effort to protect the health and wellness of your child and slow the spread of the virus, we recommend that you keep your child home during this time. At the same time, we realize that not all families have the ability to stay home with their children. While we are under the current health orders, select locations are open to provide childcare for essential workers.  These essential workers include: Healthcare/Hospital providers, Dialysis Clinic, Medical Urgent Care Provider, First Responders, Law Enforcement, Financial Institutions, Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facilities, Local, State or Federal Government Employees, Military, Pharmacies, and Grocery Stores.

Dear YMCA members and supporters,

During this critical time, the Y is responding to an urgent community need to support workers on the front lines of the virus. We are working to temporarily convert our facilities to provide emergency childcare to first responders and healthcare workers at four local hospitals.

These professionals are treating and caring for family members, relatives, and neighbors, including those who are elderly and sick. Without childcare, these vital healthcare providers will not be able to provide the care patients need in this critical time...

YMCA FACILITY CLOSURES DUE TO COVID 19

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham, in a proactive measure, will suspend normal facility and program operations effective 8pm Monday March 16, 2020 . 

We are working to convert our facilities to support the sole operations of providing Emergency All-Day Childcare to healthcare workers and first responders. This closure is effective until further notice.
