I have some great news for you! On June 1st, the YMCAs in greater Birmingham will re-open for members … and grand it will be! We can’t wait to welcome you back. It seems like forever and we truly miss seeing you and our colleagues more than you can imagine.
Most often my communications are directed to issues and matters pertaining to the Y. This morning I simply want to express appreciation to all Moms who selflessly nurtured their children and families. We all have Moms both alive and beyond. Our choice to serve and support the Y reflects the values we were taught and the way we were raised.
We will not be opening Monday, May 11th. We are heeding today's recommendation from Dr. Mark Wilson, Jefferson County Health Officer, to "refrain from having public gatherings of more than 10 people for at least another two weeks after this weekend.”
Following Governor Ivy’s recent Alabama Safer At Home Order, Y facilities and programs will remain closed through May 15th. We will continue to provide All Day Emergency Childcare for essential workers in 5 of our facilities and serve as sites for scheduled and necessary Red Cross Blood Drives while also continuing to provide our Virtual Fitness options.

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham is supporting the American Red Cross by hosting blood drives at membership branches across the city as the supply of blood donations has dropped drastically due to cancellations during the coronavirus outbreak. This is in support of a national partnership between YMCA USA and the American Red Cross.

Your membership dollars are crucial during this time as we continue to provide needed services, support those on the front lines of our Emergency childcare, as well as essential infrastructure needed to ensure you can return to the YMCA you know and love as quickly as possible.

In an effort to protect the health and wellness of your child and slow the spread of the virus, we recommend that you keep your child home during this time. At the same time, we realize that not all families have the ability to stay home with their children. While we are under the current health orders, select locations are open to provide childcare for essential workers. These essential workers include: Healthcare/Hospital providers, Dialysis Clinic, Medical Urgent Care Provider, First Responders, Law Enforcement, Financial Institutions, Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facilities, Local, State or Federal Government Employees, Military, Pharmacies, and Grocery Stores.
From YMCA of Greater Birmingham President and CEO, Dan Pile
Not-for-profits like the YMCA are fighting for the soul of our nation, serving the needs of many during this crisis especially those in vital roles in hospitals, first-responders, dialysis clinics and more. Please go to the links below and fight for the not-for-profits who are working harder than ever to be there for the caretakers who care for us. Treat not-for-profits the same as corporate America. Collectively we all matter!

Dear YMCA members and supporters,
During this critical time, the Y is responding to an urgent community need to support workers on the front lines of the virus. We are working to temporarily convert our facilities to provide emergency childcare to first responders and healthcare workers at four local hospitals.
These professionals are treating and caring for family members, relatives, and neighbors, including those who are elderly and sick. Without childcare, these vital healthcare providers will not be able to provide the care patients need in this critical time...
The YMCA of Greater Birmingham, in a proactive measure, will suspend normal facility and program operations effective 8pm Monday March 16, 2020 .
We are working to convert our facilities to support the sole operations of providing Emergency All-Day Childcare to healthcare workers and first responders. This closure is effective until further notice.
YMCA of Greater Birmingham membership branches will continue operations with normal operating hours. However, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend/amend selected programs and services as an added precaution in observation of the CDC’s recommendations about safe, social distancing...
MISSION: To put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
