Corona Virus Response Updates

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve locally and across the country, we will provide regular updates here about how our Y is responding. also, check our Facebook pages and Instagram @ymcabham.

We understand your concern around COVID 19 and the resulting temporary facility and program closures, but we don't want to lose you! Our hope is to re-open our facilities and resume normal membership and program operations the first possible moment after governing agencies release current restrictions.  For this reason, the Y is offering the following options for membership continuation:

1. Continue uninterrupted payment of your membership fees to support YOUR YMCA as we seek ways to serve your community such as emergency childcare for healthcare workers in the COVID-19 crisis (see Letter from the President and CEO), while also honoring payroll commitments, maintaining our pools, facilities and meeting maintenance needs necessary to be operational once we are allowed to do so.
2. Accept an initial FREE 1-month medical hold waiving the $10 fee during this uncertain time (after one month, consideration will be made to extend this if necessary due to the ongoing health concern). Annual prepayments would have their year extended by 1 month.
3. Process a cancelation of membership, waiving the 30-day notice requirement, making the cancelation effective with date of closure 3/17/20. Any prorated fees would be refunded based on your billing cycle. As always, memberships canceled in good standing may be easily reactivated with-in 6 months of cancel date and have the $50 Activation/Join Fee waived.

Please contact businessoffice@ymcabham.org or ymcabham.org/update-your-account to request any changes. Thank you for your support of the Y, we are honored to serve you and look forward to resuming our normal schedules and activities soon!

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation evolves, the safety of the children in our care and our employees is paramount. We assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation, and will follow recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Alabama Department of Public Health (DPH).

In an effort to protect the health and wellness of your child and slow the spread of the virus, we recommend that you keep your child home during this time.

At the same time, we realize that not all families have the ability to stay home with their children. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, we offer an emergency all-day childcare program created for healthcare workers and first responders who are working to keep our communities safe.  For more information, please click here. https://www.ymcabham.org/emergency-child-care-covid19

Ask Congress to provide immediate support for nonprofits in this time of crisis

Not-for-profits like the YMCA are fighting for the soul of our nation, serving the needs of many during this crisis especially those in vital roles in hospitals, first-responders, dialysis clinics and more. Please go to the links below and fight for the not-for-profits who are working harder than ever to be there for the caretakers who care for us. Treat not-for-profits the same as corporate America. Collectively we all matter!

Dear YMCA members and supporters,

During this critical time, the Y is responding to an urgent community need to support workers on the front lines of the virus. We are working to temporarily convert our facilities to provide emergency childcare to first responders and healthcare workers at four local hospitals.

These professionals are treating and caring for family members, relatives, and neighbors, including those who are elderly and sick. Without childcare, these vital healthcare providers will not be able to provide the care patients need in this critical time...

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham, in a proactive measure, will suspend normal facility and program operations effective 8pm Monday March 16, 2020 .

We are working to convert our facilities to support the sole operations of providing Emergency All-Day Childcare to healthcare workers and first responders.

This closure is effective until further notice.

March 15, 2020

YMCA of Greater Birmingham membership branches will continue operations with normal operating hours. However, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend/amend selected programs and services as an added precaution in observation of the CDC’s recommendations about safe, social distancing...
