If you are looking for the opportunity to make a difference, protect lives and become a part of a team, you should consider becoming a Professional Lifeguard! Few jobs are as rewarding and you will be joining a profession that has existed for over two hundred years. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
Participants must attend all classes as well as pass a final written and water test.
All participants must be 15 years old or older before the final exam, be able to swim 300 yards continuously (using freestyle and breast stroke), recover a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool and tread water with no hands for 2 minutes.
The following classes are blended meaning that there will be an online portion that the participants will need to do on their own before the first day of class. Once you register for the class, the instructor will send you the necessary information to be able to complete the online portion.
October 8th & 10th Monday 4:00-9:00pm, Wednesday 4:00-9:00pm
October 15th & 17th Monday 4:00-9:00pm, Wednesday 4:00-9:00pm
November 5th & 7th Monday 4:00-9:00pm, Wednesday 4:00-9:00pm
Must have four participants in a class in order to hold class. If the class does not have enough participants, notification will be made as soon as possible. You will have the option of a full refund or a transfer into another class.

The cost of this class is $220, with an initial $70 nonrefundable deposit due at registration. The remaining balance of $150 will be due the first day of class after all prerequisites have been successfully completed. If a participant is attending to become re-certified, the cost is $100. All participants looking to become re-certified must hold an unexpired American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.

The American Red Cross CPR/AED & First Aid course provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives. Participants must attend the entire class, demonstrate all skills correctly, and score an successfully pass a written exam.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will hold an American Red Cross certification in CPR/AED & First Aid, valid for two (2) years.
No refunds will be issued if a participant fails the class, no exceptions.
All participants must be at least 15 years of age or older.

Note: All classes listed above will be held at the Vestavia YMCA.
Note: All classes will last 3-5 hours depending on class size and class participation.
Class dates are subject to change or cancelation due to participant numbers or conflicting events. A minimum of four (4) participants per class must be registered in order for the class to be held.
If a scheduled class is changed or canceled, notification will be made on the day prior to the class. Make sure you list a proper email address when registering; class notifications will only be communicated via email.
The cost of the course is $60 for both YMCA Members & Non-Members.
Skills acquired in this course cannot be applied to a lifeguard certification.
