Evaluations will be held on August 15th, 17th, 22nd, and 14th from 4-6pm. Evals should only last 10-15 minutes.
Swim Birmingham YMCA is a year-round program offering training for beginners through national level competitive swimmers. SBY’s certified coaches will dramatically improve your child’s swimming ability while maintaining a focus on the YMCA’s core character values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. SBY competes in both USA Swimming meets, as well as YMCA competition.
Swimmers are organized by age and are grouped within those divisions by ability. There will be lanes for each age group with varying levels of practice difficulty. SBY offers practice days from two to six days a week. Practices are Monday thru Saturday after school; times will vary depending on group placement. The beginner to the most experienced swimmer will be challenged while perfecting their technique and building endurance, all while having fun!

Our program is open to swimmers ages 4 years to 18 years of age. The only requirement to be on our team is the swimmer must be able to swim one full length of the pool(25 yards) unassisted.

Being a lifeguard can be a very challenging and rewarding job. This class will certify participants in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid as well as AED.
Participants must attend all classes as well as pass a final written and water test.
Class Prerequisites - All participants must be 15 years old or older before the final exam, be able to swim 300 yards continuously (using freestyle and breast stroke), recover a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool and tread water with no hands for 2 minutes.
Must have 4 participants in a class in order to hold class. If the class does not have enough participants notification will be made the Monday prior to class beginning. You will have the option of a full refund or a transfer into another class.
Full Class: $220.00 ($70.00 due at registration) The $70 is a non-refundable fee (refunds will only be made if the YMCA cancels class).
Re-Certification Class $100 (must show non-expired certification).

Winter Registartion opens Oct 2-Nov 11, 2017 (or until teams are full).The Shades Valley youth basketball league / season plays one time each year and begins practice in November and plays games to mid-February. Go here to register:
We play other area YMCA teams and registration is open to ages 3 - 12yrs. for members and non members alike. Teams practice one time each weekday evening and play officiated games on Saturdays for (8) weeks.
Team rosters are kept small and fill up fast and oftentimes prior to registration end dates. We highly recommend that you register early as we limit the number of teams based on gymnasium availability.
We do not allow complete teams currently playing in competitive basketball leagues, to enroll.

Research shows that children who participate in afterschool programs are more successful in academics, are healthier, and more often maintain positive behaviors. Afterschool Programming at the Y is specially geared to achieve these results.
The Y’s curriculum framework offers comprehensive, age-appropriate, engaging care. Afterschool Programming focuses on eight core content areas: arts and humanities, character development, health and wellness, homework support, literacy, math and science, service learning, and social competence and conflict resolution.
The YMCA has recently adopted The Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards for Early Childhood and Afterschool Programs. These standards, when implemented fully, will show the Y’s commitment to being one of the largest and healthiest providers of early childhood education and afterschool programming in the nation.
Cost: $172 per month for members / $260 per month for non-members.
**There is a $25 registration fee**
We will need a recent photo of your child after registering online for After School Academy. Please email your child's photo to our Childcare Director, Nick Brown, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Payments will be made through a draft system, and payment is due on the 1st or 5th of each month. Draft is our only method of payment unless you pay in full for the year up front.
We do not prorate any month of After School Academy for days missed (holidays, teacher work days, absences). Our fee is based on the total cost for 1 school year of After School Academy divided into 10 equal monthly payments.
