Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I PLAN A TRIP TO CAMP COSBY?
To begin planning your next adventure please contact us, at 256-268 2007 or cosby@ymcabham.org. Be prepared for questions regarding the estimated size of your group, preferred dates or time of the year, desired activities, and meeting space needs.

DO YOU ACCOMMODATE CORPORATE OUTINGS?
Of course, we have staff that are trained in team activities including initiatives and low and/or high team experiences. We also work with universities, sports teams, scouts, schools, church groups, and more.

AM I ABLE TO SEE CAMP’S FACILITIES PRIOR TO MY GROUP ARRIVING?
Absolutely, we are available for private tours at your convenience. All you need to do is let us know and we can schedule a date and time together.

WHAT ARE THE CABINS LIKE?
All the cabins have dorm-style bunk beds with heat and air-conditioning. Half of the cabins have private restrooms and the other half have a shared restroom within the cabin. Click here to see our cabins!

WHAT IS NEEDED FOR OVERNIGHT TRIPS?
We provide the beds and mattresses, but you will need to bring bedding (blankets and sheets or sleeping bag), pillow, towel, and toiletries. Groups can elect prepared meal options or supply own food.

WHO DECIDES THE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS?
The Group Leader. After coordinating the trip with a representative from Camp Cosby, you will be told what cabins will be made available for your group. It is up to the Group Leader to assign participants to their cabins. We can help with this process too!

WHEN DO I GIVE MY FINAL NUMBERS?
The number of people served on the contract is an estimate. You will need to provide Camp Cosby with a final, guaranteed number one week prior to your arrival. This guaranteed number will be used for ordering the food, scheduling activities, reserving accommodations, and staff hiring purposes. Camp Cosby will bill for whichever number is higher, the guaranteed number a week prior or the actual number in attendance.

DO WE NEED EVERY PARTICIPANT TO SIGN A WAIVER?
Yes, please. It must be signed by a parent or guardian for all participants under 18.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
Almost all of our activities occur outside, rain or shine! It is important that the group is prepared and packed accordingly. At the first sign of hazardous weather, we move the participants to safety. Safety has to be our top priority! If you would like alternative activities for inclement weather, these can be arranged.

WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF SEVERE WEATHER?
Camp Cosby has a designated weather plan for all types of severe weather and is monitored closely by camp staff. The camp has designated storm shelters and has emergency action plans.

WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY NUMBER FOR CAMP?
The camp number is (256) 268-2007. The emergency number is 845-820-6690.

MY GROUP HAS MEMBERS THAT ARE VEGETARIANS, WILL THERE BE OPTIONS FOR THEM?
We can accommodate most dietary needs, for more information, we will consult our Food Service Director.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ANY OF THE ACTIVITIES?
Participants must be wearing closed-toed (tennis) shoes to participate in challenge course activities and have a signed waiver.

CAN WE BRING OUR OWN EQUIPMENT FOR USE AT CAMP COSBY?
As long as it has been discussed prior to arrival, then yes. Please feel free to take advantage our Lake Logan Martin shore access, hiking trails, athletic field, and disc golf course.

DOES THE GROUP NEED TO BRING SPENDING MONEY?
No, but we have the following items available at the camp store – drinks, candy, chips, fruit, water and souvenirs (T-shirts, water bottles, stuffed animals, flashlights, key chains, and more). The store will be opened at the group’s request.

IS CAMPS COSBY ACA ACCREDITED?
Yes, Camp Cosby is a member of the American Camp Association. Every 5 years, accredited camps go through a visitation and accreditation process that reviews every part of the camp operation.
