  • 1. How long is Phase 1?  Phases do not have specific timelines attached.  We will consider government and health guidance and services will be increased as limitations and requirements are relaxed around social distancing, capacity and cleaning protocols - so stay tuned

  • 4. Can I find out how busy the branch is before coming?  Yes, log in to your YMCA account ymcabham.org/update-your-account and you may check branch capacity for any YMCA of Greater Birmingham membership branch.  You may also click HERE to see all branches in one view

  • 5. How do I make a reservation for a Group X Class? Reservations may be made on our website and through our mobile APP. See https://www.ymcabham.org/reopen for instructions and links to download the latest version of the APP

  • 6. How do I make a reservation for a lap lane? See the above instructions for Group X classes. Reservations for lanes are handled on the same platform.

  • 7. Will my family and I be able to Free Swim?  Currently, in Phase 1, our pools will only be available for Single lane use under reservation.  Members may participate in the movement activity of their choice but will currently be limited to one individual per lane due to current social distancing requirements.

  • 8. Will deck space be available for lounging at the pool?  Our pool decks are currently not available for this activity in Phase 1.
  • 9. How can I request adjustments to my membership?  You may contact businessoffice@ymcabham.org or ymcabham.org/update-your-account.  Click HERE for more information on membership options.

  • 10. Will you have Summer Day Camp?  Current allowances enable us to provide All Day Emergency Care for Working Families of school-age children - this program is available through 6/12/20. Our current plan is to begin our Summer Fun Club programming starting 6/15/20. Contact childcare@ymcabham.org with inquiries and more information - space is limited. 
  • 11. How do I download the APP?  Search your APP store for Daxko , Get,Install, Open, Search for Birmingham, Select YMCA of Greater Birmingham . The APP will include our Group X schedules, store your barcode for facility Check-In, and provide other communication and useful information including facility hours and contact information.

  • 12. How long are Group X classes? - in Phase 1 Group X Class instruction time will be 45 minutes of instruction/workout time.  Allow 5 minutes before and after class to clean personal equipment.  Late arrivals will not be admitted, please plan to arrive a few minutes early.

  • 13. How long can I lap swim? Lane reservations are for 45 minutes.

  • 14. Can I reserve back to back times?  We ask members to limit facility usage to 60 minutes to accommodate capacity limits.  Once we are open and better understand usage patterns, this may be adjusted.

  • 15. Can I bring a guest, attend as a guest or use the facility under Y Nationwide?  Out of town members visiting from participating YMCA Associations under Y Nationwide are welcome.  We are currently not open for guests and are limiting our member services and facilities to active Y members.

  • 16. Can I bring my children?   Facility usage in Phase 1 is reserved for Active Members age 14+ as we do not have membership services available for individuals under age 14 due to social distancing and space limitations.

  • 17. Why are showers not available?  Per ORDER OF THE STATE HEALTH OFFICER SUSPENDING CERTAIN PUBLIC GATHERINGS DUE TO RISK OF INFECTION BY COVID-19 
  • b. Limits on facility access. An athletic facility shall limit facility occupancy to 50 percent of the normal occupancy load as determined by the fire marshal. Athletic facilities shall also prohibit patrons and guests from accessing showers, hot tubs, steam rooms, lockers, saunas, and other recreational water or spa facilities. Pools may be open subject to the social-distancing rules of this paragraph.

  • 18. How will I rinse off before/after entering the pool?  In compliance with on-going Health Department requirements, 1 shower per locker room/pool house will be available for rinsing on/off before pool use.  In branches where this is available on the pool deck, one will not be available in the locker room/pool house.

  • 19.  Why aren't you offering Water Aerobics or Free Swim in Phase 1? Due to the social distancing limitations in place, these are currently not be offered in Phase 1 but will be considered as soon as these limitations are relaxed and/or we better understand usage patterns and the ability to manage pool activity under current guidelines. "athletic facilities—such as fitness centers and commercial gyms, spas, and yoga, barre, and spin facilities—shall comply with the following rules: a. Social distancing. (i) Employees shall not knowingly allow patrons or guests to congregate within six feet of a person from another household......"Pools may be open subject to the social-distancing rules of this paragraph."

  • 20.  Why are steam/sauna/whirlpools not available? Per current orders "b. Limits on facility access. An athletic facility shall limit facility occupancy to 50 percent of the normal occupancy load as determined by the fire marshal. Athletic facilities shall also prohibit patrons and guests from accessing showers, hot tubs, steam rooms, lockers, saunas, and other recreational water or spa facilities. Pools may be open subject to the social-distancing rules of this paragraph. "  We evaluate the operations of these spaces after Phase 1.

  • 21.  Will Racquetball Courts be available?  Our racquetball courts will be utilized at most branches for our School Age Summer Programming. Others can not have social distancing maintained and will not be available in Phase 1

  • 22.  Do I need to make a reservation to use Cardio and Weight equipment if I am not swimming or doing classes?  No, reservations are not required for our general use of fitness spaces, the track or open general use areas.  As long as we stay within 50% capacity limits and can maintain social distancing, these spaces are open first come first serve, no reservation required.

  • 23.  What will be different in my Group X class?  Make sure and arrive to the branch 5-10 minutes early for our easy and quick check-in procedures. Late arrivals to class will not be admitted, even if the class spot is reserved. Class instruction/workout time will be 45 minutes. All classes will begin and end with a quick cleaning of equipment used.  Doors will be propped open, no floor fans (ceiling fans allowed), floors will be marked for spacing, no sharing of equipment during class (no moving stations).  You will still experience the awesome workout and instructors you expect.

  • 24.  Can I use the facility on June 1 under my Silver Sneaker participation?  Yes, Active Y members and Silver Sneaker program participants have facility access on June 1.  We will not be offering Silver Sneaker CLASSES or others designed especially for the active older adult, but participants are welcome to check-in for general facility use or participation in other Group X classes.   • 25.  When will Learn and Play reopen?  We currently do not have a definite timeframe to provide around Learn and Play services.  As social distancing and other requirements are adjusted, we will be able to reconsider additional services. Once we are able to open, we will be certain to communicate it as we are eager for your little ones (and their parents) to be able to return safely to the Y!

  • 26.  Are the Group Exercise rooms available to members when they are not being used for classes? During this time of Phase 1 operations, due to necessary cleaning protocols, Group X rooms will be limited to scheduled classes only and will not be available for general member use outside of scheduled classes.  All other fitness spaces will be open for general member use.
