Kindergarten Readiness

The Kindergarten Readiness program creates a learning environment supporting the early education needs of children throughout Birmingham.  *Participants must be potty trained AND 3 years old on or before September 1, 2021.

Program Goals

  1. To lay a foundation for school-ready literacy and math skills.
  2. To encourage children to learn with, and from, each other.
  3. To teach language skills to non-English speaking children.
  4. To provide a quality education at an affordable price.

Alabaster

Hours of Operation
Monday-Friday; 8:30am-12:30pm

Dates of Operation
September 7, 2021 – May 13, 2022 
*Program follows Alabaster City Schools calendar for holiday closures.

Ages
3-5 years old —must be potty trained and 3 by September 1, 2021

Cost
$186 per month per child YMCA Members
$302 per month per child Non-Members

*Please note that our monthly rate is based on a weekly rate ($52.50 for members and $85.00 for non-members) x 32 weeks of school divided by 9 equal monthly payments. Program fees are calculated based on approved school calendars – fees are not prorated for scheduled school holidays, teacher work days, or general absences.  Payments are paid by monthly bank draft. Payments are due on the 1st of the month.

Financial Assistance
The YMCA believes in serving the needs of everyone in our community regardless of their ability to pay full fees. Financial assistance, based on need, is available for Kindergarten Readiness. Awards are given on a first come basis. For more information click here. Applications should be emailed to mjackson@ymcabham.org with the subject line “Alabaster YMCA Financial Assistance.”

Registration
Priority registration for YMCA members will open July 26, 2021 at 9am.  Non-members can begin registration August 9, 2021 at 9am. There is a $50 registration fee plus a $75 deposit due at time of registration.  The $75 deposit will be applied to your first month.  Registration fees are non-refundable.  Deposits are refundable if it is cancelled at least 2 weeks in advance prior to the start of the program.

Cancellation Policy
If a parent wishes to cancel any month of Kindergarten Readiness, a two (2) Week advance written notice is required. No refunds or credits will be issued for requests not meeting the 2 Week notice and the monthly/weekly balance will be considered due. Please email our Member Account Service team at childcare@ymcabham.org to submit cancellations.

The Y requires continuous registration for the entire school year to maintain a spot in the program. The YMCA is not able to accommodate requests for temporary breaks in service/payment during the school year. Requests to cancel a service period of Kindergarten Readiness will result in the cancellation of all future service periods/months remaining in the school year beyond the 2-week required notification. If parents choose to cancel under these terms, they may re-register when they are ready to return to the program as space allows.
