private/semi-private lessons

The Aquatics Department will contact you to confirm start time and date. It takes approx 7-10 days to begin lessons once registered. *Please note that all no show lessons will be charged for that lesson.* 

Private Lessons: $125 Member | $175 Non-Member for 6, 30 minute lessons

Semi-Private Lessons: $90 Member | $130 Non-Member for 6, 30 minute lessons. Cost is per swimmer. All participants must register for lessons to be scheduled. The YMCA does not pair participants together.

Make­up lessons for group will be done on Fridays of the week that they are canceled. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel a class due to weather or pool issues. Make­up lessons will not be rescheduled due to participant absence.

The American Red Cross Community CPR / AED / 1st Aid course provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will hold an adult, infant, child CPR/AED, and 1st Aid certification valid for two years.
Skills acquired in this course cannot be applied to a lifeguarding certification as this course certifies participants in rescue skills for lay responders not professional rescuers.

water safety / home pool safety

Owning a pool or hot tub comes with many responsibilities and the American Red Cross Water Safety Course teaches you all the layers of protection to secure your home pool or hot tub. This course also covers the differences of swimming in a natural body of water and gives you the skills to be prepared in case of an emergency. This course does not certify you to become a Lifeguard.

This class fullfills the requirements for those going through the Foster / Adoption process in the state of Alabama and can be offered in conjunction with the CPR/First Aid classes. *Classes are by appointment only*

$60 per person

Group Rates:
$45 per person for group of 3
$35 per person for group of 5 or more

Being a lifeguard can be a very challenging and rewarding job. This class will certify participants in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid as well as AED. Participants must attend all classes as well as pass a final written and water test.

Class Prerequisites - All participants must be 15 years old or older before the final exam, be able to swim 300 yards continuously (using freestyle and breast stroke), recover a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool and tread water with no hands for 2 minutes. Must have 4 participants in a class in order to hold class. If the class does not have enough participants notification will be made the Monday prior to class beginning. You will have the option of a full refund or a transfer into another class.

Lifeguard Certification: $220 per participant | $70 due at registration, non-refundable deposit to reserve your spot in class. Remaining balance due the first day of class. 

Lifeguard Re-certififcation: $100 per participant | $50 due at registration. Must hold current lifeguard certification.
