Dear YMCA Members and Friends,
In light of Governor Ivey’s announcement today, we wanted to reach out and let you know how these developments affect your YMCA. The YMCA of Greater Birmingham’s mission is to serve. We want our doors open. We are as eager to welcome you back into our facilities as you are to be here. But even above that desire to re-open, we must prioritize your safety and the safety of our dedicated staff. We will not be opening Monday, May 11th.
We are heeding today's recommendation from Dr. Mark Wilson, Jefferson County Health Officer, to "refrain from having public gatherings of more than 10 people for at least another two weeks after this weekend.”
We plan to open our doors early June, but we will continue to heed the advice of the Jefferson County Department of Health. We are using this time to make any necessary adjustments to our facilities and protocols. We serve approximately 60,000 people each year through our facilities and programs, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We will announce a specific opening date as soon as we can, and we appreciate your commitment to the YMCA. We will continue to do our best to keep you informed with more details in the coming days. Stay tuned!
Dan Pile, YMCA of Greater Birmingham President & CEO
