Brand-new nutrition and diet apps are coming out all the time, but there are so many that it’s tough to tell which ones to download and which ones to skip and play Candy Crush instead.

This one helps you find restaurants that offer healthy options. It provides access to local restaurants, and it matches items on the restaurants’ menus to your diet needs and preferences. One downside: The app has a large database of restaurants, but it has some noticeable exceptions, such as Starbucks.

This one helps you keep track of whether you’re getting enough water. You can take pictures of your drinking vessels in order to quickly and automatically tally up your water intake. The app also reminds you to drink fluids, and offers helpful graphs so you can assess your hydration.

Enter your fitness goals, nutrition requirements, and food sensitivities when you set up the app – then when you shop, you can scan bar codes of items that you’re thinking about buying. Shopwell then lists the nutritional content, including sugar, sodium, and other details. 
You can also take a photo of your store receipt and Shopwell will tell you how well your purchases line up with your nutrition goals.
