Aquatics Program 2009

The Northeast Branch offers one outdoor pool: 5 lanes, 25 yards long, with a depth range of 3 - 5 feet, in addition to a slide and depth of 5 feet. There is also a wading pool: depth of 1 foot on both sides and 2 feet in the middle. The Northeast YMCA pool will open for the season on June 1, 2009.

2009 Lifeguarding Classes - DATE CHANGE!

Course Dates: June 3 - 7, 2009 ; June 17 - 21, 2009

All classes are Wednesday - Sunday unless otherwise noted. Class times are Wed. - Fri. 4pm - 9pm and Sat. & Sun. 10 am - 6pm.  Please register for any class by the Friday before the class is to start.

Requirements:

  • Age: 15 or older. (Must turn 15 on or before the last day of class.)
  • Swim 300 yards continiously- 100 yards of freestyle; 100 yards of breaststroke; 100 of either of the above stroke.
  • Retrieve a 10 pound dive brick from the deep end of pool.

Cost:

  • $70.00 - non-refundable deposit due at registration
  • $150.00 - due on the second day of class

It is time for Summer Swim Lesson Registration! Registration starts January 1, 2009. Spaces are limited and classes fill up fast.

Individual Swim Lessons
Morning Classes: (Monday – Thursday; 45 minute sessions)
Classes Begin at: 8:15 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 10:00 a.m.

Evening Classes: (Monday – Thursday; 45 minute sessions)
Classes Begin at: 4:00 p.m., 5:15 p.m., and 6:15 p.m.
 

*Friday is a makeup day

*Must Have 5 Participants in order for session to meet

Swim Lesson Registration Form

SUMMER SWIM CLUB - REGISTRATION BEGINS MARCH 1, 2009

The Northeast YMCA will have its first Swim Club for the summer of 2009! Swim Clubbers will learn techniques to refine their swimming skills in order to be able to participate on a swim team. Clubbers will also have the opportunity to compete in local YMCA competitions and amongst other Northeast YMCA Swim Clubbers. So come join us as we have fun in the sun at the Northeast YMCA.

Session 1: (June 2009: Tuesday and Thursday)
June 2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 23th, and 25th

Session 2: (July 2009: Tuesday and Thursday)
July 7th, 9th, 14th, 16th, 21st, 23rd, 28th, and 30th

Time:
5:00 – 5:45 p.m. (Tuesday and Thursday)

Cost:
$75.00 per child/session – Members
$100.00 per child/session – Non-Members

Organization Swim Lessons and Recreational Swimming
If you are a daycare or other organization interested in swim lessons and/or recreational swim times, please contact Mrs. Sophia Glenn at 205-833-7616 to schedule dates and times.

Swim Levels

Preschool Lessons (Ages 3-5)
Pike: This class is for beginners and any child that cannot swim on their own.
Eel: This class is for a child who can swim at least 10 ft (from the wall to the flags) on their own, float on their front and back, and put their face in the water.
Ray: This class for a child who can swim half the length of the pool on their own. They should also be able to swim 15 feet on their back.
Starfish: This class if for children who can swim the length of the pool on their own (75ft). They should also be able to swim the length of the pool on their back.

Must have 2 children in the class for it to make.

Youth and Adult Swim Lessons (Ages 6-13)
Polliwog: This is any child who cannot swim the length of the pool on their stomach.
Guppy: In this level the child can swim the length of the pool on their stomach, but not with rhythmic breathing. Children in this level should also be able to swim at least half the length of the pool on their back.
Minnow: Children in this level can swim the length of the pool on their stomach with rhythmic breathing. They should also be able to swim the length of the pool on their back.
Fish: Children at this level should be able to do the front crawl (with rotary breathing), for at least the length of the pool, as well as backstroke for the length of the pool. They should also be able to do a rudimentary breaststroke for the length of the pool.
Flying Fish: In this level the kids have mastered the front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke. They should be able to do a rudimentary butterfly.
Shark: Kids in this level should be able to swim all four competitive strokes legally. They should build endurance, refine strokes and begin to learn basic life guarding skills. They will also be introduced to strokes such as the lifesaving stroke.

Must have 2 kids in the class for it to make.
