LIFE AT THE POOL
Pool Hours: The Mountain Brook branch has one saline (salt water) recreation pool, one baby pool, and 2 whirlpools. The recreation pool is 25 yards long, with a depth range of 3.5 - 8.5 feet. It is covered in the off-season for year-round availability. The baby pool has a depth of 1 foot on both sides and 2 feet in the middle. It is open form June to August. The whirlpools are located in both the men and women's locker rooms.
The recreational pool hours are:
Mon-Thur 5:00AM - 8:30PM Friday 5:00AM - 7:30PM
Saturday 7:00AM - 5:30 PM Sunday 8:00AM - 6:30PM
OPEN swim starts at 10:00AM each day.
Swim Lessons
Swim lessons are offered year-round. Registration is always open.
Private Swim Lessons: Cost: $90 Member $108 Non-member Learn to swim one-on-one time with a certified swim instructor. We will work with your schedule and match you with an instructor that will fit your needs. Each session is 6 / 30 minute lessons.
Semi-Private Lessons: Cost $70 Member(per child) $90 Non-member (per child)
This is for families who wish to have multiple children instructed during the same session. We work with your schedule and match you with an instructor that will fit the needs of each swimmer. Each session is 6 / 30 minute lessons.
Pool Parties
Have your next birthday party, celebration, family or private gathering at the Mountain Brook pool. Cost is $87. Contact Aquatics Director to reserve or ask questions.
Master Swim Class
Magic City Masters is for anyone who wants to improve their swimming abilities. Our goals are to have fun, improve our swimming technique, learn new skills, get faster, and meet people who are like minded.
Who can be a Masters Swimmer? ANYONE. Masters Swimming is open to anyone 19 years of age or older who knows how to swim. Our club is made up of all types of swimmers, from former college athletes, to rising and experienced tri-athletes, to recreational swimmers, to folks just wanting to stay in shape and do something that will not pound their body.
Our coaches are John Hanna & Sherry Colgin. Workouts typically include swim sets, kick sets, pull sets and drills to improve technique. There are multiple workouts available at each practice so that any and all levels of skill can be met.
When do we swim? Monday, Wednesday, and Friday beginning at 5:30 A.M. Practices typically finish by 6:30 A.M.
Do I have to belong to YMCA? No, however, there is an additional fee for non-members.
How much does it cost? For YMCA members, the cost is $25.00 per month or $60.00 per quarter. For Non members, the cost is $38.00 per month or $100.00 per quarter.

Lifeguard Certification
Next class offered is scheduled for:
11/16/2010-11/21/2010
Cost: $220.00 ($75.00 due at registration) or $100 for recertification sessions
Being a lifeguard can be a very challenging and rewarding job. This class will certify participants in the new American Red Cross Lifeguard Course, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid as well as AED. Participants must attend all classes as well as pass a final written and water test.
Class Prerequisites - All participants must be 15 years old or older before the final exam, be able to swim 300 yards continuously (using freestyle and breast stroke) and recover a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool.
NOTE: If you want to be a lifeguard, but you aren't ready to pass the prerequisites, there are practice sessions available. Contact Aquatics Director for details.
