CPR - Blended Learning

In the continuing collaboration between our association and the American Red Cross, an online-experiential “Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED” certification program is now available. The program is designed to prepare individuals to respond to life-threatening emergencies through a combination of online (web-based) lessons and traditional instructor-led training. Blended Learning participants complete the knowledge portion online at home and at their own pace, and then demonstrate those learned -skills in a special class at the Downtown YMCA.

The traditional class “Time Saver,” is four-five hours. “Blended” learning is self-paced, to remove the pressure of learning or relearning the information in a short period of time. You control how long it will take you to go through the information. After you complete the online portion, you will then come into a skill session class and perform your learned-skills. Depending on class size, this is about one hour.

How do you register for this great class?
Step 1: Contact Adam West at awest@ymcabham.org or 801.7235
Step 2: The Red Cross will send you an ID number to enter online. Once you have received your email you will have 15 days to take the class on line.
Step 3: Take the class at your own pace, go through the review questions,
and then take the test.
Step 4: Once you have passed the class you will be able to print a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION (This certificate is your entry into the onsite skills session class; it does not mean that you are certified.) Bring it to the skills session. You have two weeks after you pass the online test to attend a skills session.
Step 5: Go to skill session class and perform your learned-skills.
Step 6: YOU ARE CERTIFIED!

Cost:
Adult CPR/AED (Child/Infant CPR Optional) $35

Group Swim Lessons

Parent/Child Swim Lessons (Ages 6 months-3 years)
At this time we offer only one parent/child course. This course is not designed to teach your child to swim, but will focus on water adjustment. This will be done through songs and games. As your child becomes more comfortable in the water, instructors will begin to work with you and your child on basic swimming skills. This will be done in such as way that gives the parent tools to start working with their child in the water. The Y stresses that swimming is a natural part of development, and with all things is different for every child. Please be patient with your child. Tasks such as going underwater and getting wet should be done on a voluntary basis by the child, not forced. Children who regard water as a happy place will learn skills much quicker than those that have been forced to do so. Must have 3 kids in the class for it to make.
