As Summer Day Campers prepare to wrap up another unforgettable year of canoes, campfires, and color wars, staffers at YMCA’s Hargis Retreat are getting ready for the camp’s third-annual “Fam Jam” celebration, Hargis’ very special end-of-season alumni dinner.
“It can get very emotional,” said Kim Sharp, Hargis Retreat’s Program Executive. “When it comes time for campers to leave on that last Friday, kids are sad to leave camp and excited to see their families - all at the same time. This event is a great opportunity for parents to come out and see how excited their kids are about camp, and all the wonderful activities they’ve been doing all summer.”
Day Camp activities are divided into 10 one-week summer sessions and include an upbeat mix of outdoor adventures, physical and spiritual development, and personal achievement challenges. Hiking, lake and pool swimming, archery, fishing, and rock climbing are intermingled with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Match) tasks and chapel sessions to give campers a unique blend of long-term benefits, lasting memories, and lifelong friendships.
Hargis Retreat is currently extending invitations to this year’s “Fam Jam” reunion to all past and present Summer Day Camp attendees, families and staff members. The FREE event will be held Friday, August 4, from 5-7 p.m., and will feature a sit-down dinner, skits, and other FUN-filled surprises for staffers, campers, and their families.
