Are You Ready To Be Inspired?

Even our very own Group Exercise Instructors have had a fitness journey. Megan is not only a YMCA Memership director; she also teaches Zumba Fitness classes during the week.

I was in pretty good shape in high school and was a cheerleader throughout the years so I was pretty active. When I was 20, I moved out of my parents' healthy household and into my own place of "freedom". I finally got a real taste of fast food! And processed food! And every other unhealthy thing that is so delicious - and I couldn't get enough of them. Before I knew it, I was pushing 200 lbs and wearing a size 16. One day I looked at a picture someone recently took of me and I was shocked. I didn't even recognize myself...I knew I had to make a change.

I didn't like to exercise...   

So I started praying that the Lord would help me find something that I could do to lose weight. Just like that, in November of 2009, Zumba Fitness was introduced to the YMCA. I went to the first class expecting it to be like any other aerobics class and boy was I surprised! Within minutes I was HOOKED. Dancing and exercise with great music? I knew this was where I belonged. It completely took my mind off of how bad aI felt about myself and how much I hated my body. I was actually having while working out. After a few months, people started noticing a difference in my appearance. In 2010, my instructor encouraged me to enter training to become an instructor. 

Fast forward to today... 

My life has completely changed. I have been teaching Zumba Fitness for 9 years, I am down 60 pounds and I have dropped 10 dress sizes! This is the only exercise I have ever done that is always fresh and exciting and allows me to ALWAYS have a blast while working out. It's also allowed my to maintain my weight loss.

As a group fitness participant, it can be really intimidating to go to a class where the instructor is already in fabulous shape, everyone seems to know what's going on, and you feel ilke no one understands how you feel. WRONG! Every person has a journey. Including me. YOU have to DECIDE to change and find a workout that you absolutely LOVE. Be the change that you want to see!
