AL Summer Camp

Youth Development is the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical processes that all youth uniquely experience from birth to career. A successful development process fulfills children and teens’ innate need to be loved, spiritually grounded, educated, competent, and healthy.

Trading stories and sharing a favorite book or song with a new friend. Being greeted with smiles and high-fives from staff and team-mates after scoring the winning point. Always fitting in, just for being you. This is what the Y's summer camp is all about—ensuring kids get more out of their summer break: more friendships, more achievements and more belonging.

We demonstrate the role positive relationships play in the well-being of a child through:
• Staff-camper Relationships
• Camper Peer Friend-making
• Parent Engagement

We help children realize their passions, talents and potential through:
• Achievement Passport
• Skill Variety & Mastery Charts
•Disguised learning activities through STEM, Reading and Writing

We are a place where kids feel safe, welcomed and can express their individuality through:
• Autonomous Choices
• Rituals and Traditions
• Daily Activity Framework
• Inclusion

Campers will experience the adventure and excitement of the outdoors daily, meet new friends, and express their growing independence under the supervision of qualified and caring YMCA camp staff. Camp activities include C.A.T.C.H. games, STEM, KidzLit and KidzMath games, sports, crafts, songs, special events, swimming, and field trips. Campers will spend their day outdoors with rotating time inside for activities.

Specialty day camps will provide opportunities to teach your child specific skills or provide them with new experiences. Each camp focuses on a specific activity or theme and lasts for one week. Part of each day will consist of activities that relate to a specific theme while other times will be spent doing traditional camp activities such as C.A.T.C.H. games, KidzLit & KidzMath activities, STEM activities, sports, crafts and more.. If your child is participating in a Specialty Camp week, they will NOT attend the regular Traditional Camp field trips and activities for that week. Please include your child in the selection of these camps. Once the week has begun, changes cannot be made.

Our Sports Camps are designed to work on existing as well as new skills for the participants registered. Each day participants will spend time in the mornings working in skills clinics and in the afternoons they will swim and play games using the skills they worked on that morning. Camps are from 9-4 each day with an early drop off and late pick up option. All participants should be brought to the YMCA no later than 8:30am to get ready for the day. Each camp is run by a Vendor, Skills Coach, HS coach, or College coach/athlete.

Day Camp Swim Lessons are offered in the mornings at 8:00am for 2 week sessions (Monday – Thursday of each week). Missed classes due to late arrivals will not be made up. Campers must be registered for two weeks of camp in order to attend day camp swim lessons. Campers will not miss any scheduled camp activities.
