Work Without Worry
For the times you can't be there yourself, the YMCA supports your efforts to nurture your child's healthy development. Well-trained staff provide safe, affordable, high-quality care so you can have peace of mind while you work to help your family succeed.
Mission & Goals of the Afterschool Program
Mission:
Values & Assets - In addition to bringing the YMCA character values to life, counselors nurture nine more personal assets in all after school students regardless of race, religion or national origin.
Fitness & Nutrition - CATCH: Coordinated Approach to Child Health, brings fitness and nutrition education to every after school student, masquerading as games.
Education - Education takes many forms in YMCA after school, including discovering new friends, learning about sportsmanship and fair play, and developing leadership skills, each one focusing on spirit, mind, and body.
Safety - from counselor to student rations, to daily protocols and routines, keeping your child safe at the YMCA is a promise we make to you.
FUN - Always!
Goals:
To strengthen the family unit.
To provide a positive growth experience, recognizing each child's individual needs and abilities.
To provide activities and experiences that develop and support Christian values and positive self-esteem.
To collaborate with area organizations in order to provide the best service for each child.
To help keep homework as a focus and in balance with a daily dose of fun.
Age-Appropriate Experiences
YMCA school-age care makes sure that the time gaps after school are filled creatively and constructively. Kids have the chance to express their talents in the arts, sports, and other areas of interest. Kids find out what success is all about in an approach that says everybody plays, everybody wins. Time is set aside for tackling homework, with adult help available. YMCA staff know how to challenge children and listen to them.
Focus on the Family
No matter how many hours children spend in child care, family is the most important structure in their lives. At the YMCA, good child care is good family care. Like all YMCA programs, child care is open to all, with financial aid available. Staff members are partners with parents and other caregivers, working together to help kids grow up healthy, happy and strong.
